RE:TAILS (2007)A denatured structuralist editing exercise in which seven generations of digital-denegration bob and weave themselves a maze separating (though building wormholes between) Paul Sharits' Tails (the initial material)--a meditation on the celluloid material of film, the tails at the end of a reel, the nature of film as nature-replicator, a nostalgic trick that is as abstract as it is concrete--and our own maker's skewed undoing. The sound is a text about itself; about the impossibility of translation; about the film, the video, the analog of the transfer to the translation; a cacophony of competing voices unlearning their own languages in dissonant recitation of above described text (insofar as its limits are forgiven).
